Inviting The Lord's Supper will be included in
this time of worship because we observe this
memorial every Sunday. The reason is based on
our desire to be like the earliest Christians.
Jesus gave this way of remembering Him to the
disciples shortly before His death. The church
in New Testament days observed the Lord's Supper
(or communion) on the first day of each week.*
Early church historians** tell us that the
Lord's Supper was observed every Sunday.
During this memorial meal, plates containing
pieces of unleavened bread will be passed
throughout the congregation. The bread
symbolizes the body of Jesus. Each person who
participates will break off a piece of bread and
eat it.
Next, trays filled with small cups will be
distributed. The cups contain grape juice,
symbolizing the blood of Jesus***. Each
participant will drink the contents of one cup.
If you choose not to participate, please do
not be embarrassed. Feel free to just pass the
tray on to the person sitting next to you. This
Supper is the original way of remembering the
sacrifices Jesus made on our behalf.
